During a draft, a commissioner sometimes sets time limits for each pick or team. When the time limit is exceeded, the team scheduled to pick is skipped.
First, don't panic! Being skipped doesn't necessarily mean you're out of the league, let alone out of the hunt for the championship. We give you an easy way to get back into this, staying fair to everyone else.
In this example, "Your Team" was skipped at pick 7 at 7:10 on 09/07:

You'll see five players were taken after you were skipped, and Las Vegas is currently up.
When you arrive at a draft page and see something like this you are allowed to pick a player with that skipped pick right away. The only disadvantage you have is that the players picked by teams after you (in this case, picks 8-12) are already considered taken. Also, you are racing against the current team picking because they can also pick at anytime. If you decide not to pick, the next teams can take more and more players, rendering your pick less and less useful... but not totally useless.
Let's say you decide to use contingencies to choose LeBron James with your skipped pick.

You'll see he gets plopped into your open spot, and the draft continues on normally. You can tell that the pick was skipped and the player was taken out of turn by the time it was picked (see highlighted above).
If you get skipped more than once, the same rules apply. If you have multiple picks skipped at the same time you can fill them with players as fast as you can save contingencies. If more than one team has open skipped picks, players are taken on a first come, first served basis.
If you are concerned as to why you were skipped, you should address your league and commissioner. Good commissioners won't skip teams unless they are truly holding up the draft and it's in the best interest of the league to move on (it also helps if everyone agrees it's fair). If you feel you have been skipped unfairly, you should take it up with the commissioner of your league. If they refuse to give a valid reason why you were skipped, it may help to address the rest of your league and considered a commissioner replacement vote. It's important to discuss draft timing before the draft starts, and for commissioners, it's essential not to jump the gun and jeopardize the level playing field. Many people get excited and want to get through the draft as soon as possible, but if there is no more of an advantage to finishing a month before the season starts than a day (in fact, some would argue it's worse because you aren't able to see preseason games and rosters).
