Sports.ws assigns every player in the league a position. It is inevitable that some people, even entire leagues, are going to disagree with one or more of the assignments. Players can change positions in real life, sometimes the dual-position aspect of Sports.ws is abused, and sometimes everybody agrees a position might be just wrong. The biggest sports newspapers and sites articles aren't always consistent, but we have done what we can to make things fair.
We give you the option to vote any player on any roster in your league to any other position. The most common votes are usually by an owner for a player on their team - usually from a single position to a multi-position (G to GF for instance), but also from a single to another single (C to F for instance). Sometimes, owners see a player on somebody else's team that they think should be changed and make the proposal.
Here's an example of the fields used to propose a position change vote:

Choose a single player from the combined list of all fantasy roster. Choose a new position (G, GF, F, FC, C), then add option comments and web URL to help support your case. Remember that GF is the same as FG and FC is the same as CF. The article on lineups and changing position help explain why.
Note: only players on active fantasy rosters can have their positions changed. Also, if a player is voted into a new position, dropped, then picked up again, they will revert to the most current Sports.ws default position.
| When the vote closes, if it has passed (read how this happens in the voting and vote timing article), the player's position will be changed instantly. It will, however, only affect lineups going forward. Games in progress involving the player will be scored using the old position. This needs to happen because owners order their lineup based on position and if they can't control the order once a lineup is frozen, the position shouldn't change. | | Example Open Vote |
Advice: it can be very helpful to decide how your league is going to respond to position votes as early as possible. Unfortunately, many people vote whichever way will hurt an opponent and help them, regardless if the position is valid or not. Also, many debates are started from unnecessary position votes and those with more multi-position players are often singled out. Some that draft a player under certain assumptions are annoyed when the situation on which the assumptions are based are changed.
Some leagues decide to stick with the league's favorite publication and voting any discrepancy between it and Sports.ws through. Some decide every team can have only 1 multi-position player. Others decide owners get a limited amount of proposals taken seriously, and some just stick with the Sports.ws listing. We recommend all of these.
We do not change positions often, so that teams aren't surprised - most are usually made by the end of September.
Very clever leagues sometimes using the position voting to handicap the veterans. There was a case when a league votes all of an owner's players to center, even if they were a real-life guard or forward. We don't know if that specific idea is a good idea (unless you're trying to punish the owner), but there is a lot of flexibility.
