Reflections from a Two-Time Champ

By G-Money Gortex

After dominating my leagues for the last two seasons, I really need a challenge. With that in mind, I’ve decided to let YOU – the huddled masses – in on a few secrets on how to win your league, or maybe if you’re reeeeeeeeeeeallly lucky, mine.

Be careful of ‘big name” players that eat up a ton of minutes. Sure, guys like Stevie Franchise are great for the NBA & make really neat commercials, but there are a lot of guys out there who produce more points in less minutes per game. Plus when a guy like Francis, Gilbert Arenas, or Jason Terry drop a 2 for 19 night on you, it hurts a lot more since they’ve still probably played close to 40 minutes.

Depth wins championships. With the unique scoring system offered by hoops.sports.ws (which is by FAR the best out there), you need to pay attention to who’s on your bench. Players are going to get hurt or just plain take a night off, and nothing makes you pay attention to who your number 3 & 4 guards are than when Iverson decides to miss two weeks. Be prepared ahead of time.

Points Per Minute (PPM) is the key to victory. Stock your team full of high-energy, middle-minutes playing guys and you’ll have your self a contender. Two words – Stromile Swift. Guys like him have always been a key to my championships. Don’t be afraid to draft guys like Stro, Dan Gadzuric, Samuel Dalembert, etc. . These guys are all hungry, and know that they need to make the most of their limited minutes on their NBA teams. Just make sure you don’t have TOO many low minute guys, or it will come back to haunt you when one gets hurt & you leave 20 open minutes at Forward.

Ride the hot hand, whoever it is. Basketball players are a streaky bunch, so don’t be afraid to drop a player down in your rankings & boost a player when they are hot. There was no better feeling than last season when I rode Bob Sura & Marquis Daniels to a league championship – both of whom I picked up as free agents shortly before the playoffs.

And finally, talk trash. Nothing is better than rubbing your opponents nose in the fact that you just beat his All-Star lineup of Steve Francis & Paul Pierce with the likes of Ronald Dupree & Etan Thomas. So if it happens, let him know. In fact let EVERYONE know. After all, where’s the fun if you can’t ruffle a little feathers?

That’s all for now. Some secrets I’ve gotta keep for myself…

- The fabulous G-Money Gortex

G$ keeps the good tips to himself...
I found these "tips" to be totally elementary. Anyone with a chance to win their league already knows this stuff. It's hard to "dominate" your league without having the best regular season record. I believe it would be more accurate to say that he "dominated the playoffs". Probably this writer is friends with many other fantasy league players that can't read or spell. These tips may help them out provided that someone reads this article to them.
